Diabetes Self Maintenance Education (DSME)

DSME items

Diabetes Self Maintenance Education or “DSME” is a series of classes or one on one appointments, available at the Onslow County Health Department, designed to help you understand your diabetes, maintain and control your blood sugar, and decrease your risk for the developing other illnesses related to your diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes.  This program is accredited by the American Diabetes Association and taught by a Registered Nurse and Registered Dietitian to empower you with the necessary information you need to make small changes to your daily routine. Research has shown that people who take a DSME class, make small sustainable changes to their diet and lifestyle, and take their medications as directed have a better quality of life and live longer.

How do you get registered for DSME?
