The North Carolina Fire Code requires an operational permit be issued the following reasons before the use, occupancy or operation begins. Operational permits are valid for the condition they are issued for and only for the entity they are issued to. Operational permits can be found in the links to the right. A completed application should be submitted to central permitting at permitting@onslowcountync.gov.
- Amusement buildings
- Carnivals and fairs
- Combustible dust producing operations
- Covered and open mall buildings
- Exhibits and trade shows
- Explosives (manufacture, storage, handling, sale, etc)
- Tank vehicles, equipment, tanks, plants, terminals, wells, fuel dispensing stations, refineries, distilleries, and similar
- Out of service below ground, protected above ground or above ground tanks
- To change the content of a flammable/combustible tank
- Fuel distribution
- Dispensing fuel from tank vehicles
- Fumigation and insecticide fogging
- Liquid and gas fueled vehicles in an assembly building
- Private fire hydrants
- Pyrotechnic special effects materials
- Spraying or dipping operations
- Temporary membrane structures and tents
