TB Risk Assessment and Screenings

What To Expect

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria usually attacks the lungs, but TB bacteria can attack any part of the body such as the kidney, spine and brain. If not treated properly, TB disease can be fatal and was once the leading cause of death in the United States.
Onslow County is a low risk area for Tuberculosis, however many employers and schools require the placement of a PPD (TB skin test) yearly. For some individuals a TB risk assessment and symptom screen is considered best practice.

If insurance does not cover TB assessments & screenings, the cost will be $28 to be paid at time of service.

TB risk assessment and screenings can be completed Monday through Wednesday, and on Friday. These days may vary during weeks with holidays. Certain high risk individuals may still have a PPD skin test outside of these times based on the risk assessment, symptom screen or job exposure risk.
