Adolescent Parenting Program (APP)

APP is a program designed by the North Carolina Division of Social Services to assist county departments of social services in strengthening services for adolescent parents.

APP Participants

Participants of the APP program are adolescents 19 years of age and younger, pregnant or parenting regardless of race or religion.


APP's goals include:
  • Remaining in school until graduation
  • Preventing subsequent adolescent pregnancies
  • Improving parenting skills
  • Locating and using community resources
  • Stabilizing family support systems
  • Strengthening employability skills and efforts to become economically self-sufficient

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible for the APP, participants must be:
  • 19 years of age or younger
  • Pregnant with first child, or has only one child, and be willing to postpone a second pregnancy
  • Presently enrolled in school (middle school, high school, GED program, etc.) or wants to return to school or interested in obtaining their GED
