Barbara Ikner was born as Barbara Melton in the Sneads Ferry Community, where she lived and attend Dixon High School.
Commissioner Ikner met her husband, William Ikner, when she moved to Nevada. They have been married for 36 years. During her years in Nevada, Barbara was very active in local government, the educational system and community projects.
In 1997, she returned home to Sneads Ferry with her husband and son. The Ikner's son, James, and his wife, Jessica, both work for the Department of State and live in Africa.
This is Mrs. Ikner's first term as an Onslow County Commissioner. Her term of office is through December 2012. She serves as the commissioner appointee to the ABC Board, ONWASA Board of Directors, Workforce Advisory Board and Volunteer Fire Service Task Force.
Mrs. Ikner enjoys outdoor sports, including kayaking. Her special area of interest as a commissioner is the interests of senior citizens.
