Beginning January 1, Residential pier and dock structures meeting all of the limitations of the exception of section R327.1 of the 2018 North Carolina Residential Code are not subject to any minimum code requirements and are therefore exempt from requiring a Building Permit. To qualify, a Code Exemption Certification must be completed and approved by a code enforcement officer. A link to the exemption form is below.
