When real property accounts become seriously past due, the County may initiate a foreclosure proceeding. If the property owner fails to act, the property will likely be put up for public auction.
Tax foreclosures are done in a mortgage style, and are assigned to attorneys contracted by the county. There is no particular date that these auction sales may be held. They are advertised in the local paper, The Jacksonville Daily News. If there is not a successful bidder, the county becomes the owner of the property.
Any properties that the county owns can be inquired about through our Purchasing Dept., phone# 910-455-1750. The listing is for vacant properties only.
