Employment Process
The Process
Step 1
Onslow County positions that are open to the public may be posted in any or all of the following:
- Onslow County website
- Area college/university placement offices
- NCWorks
- JobLink
- Marine Corps Base - Camp Lejeune
- Professional organizations
- Internet job boards
- Local newspapers
Step 2
Applicants must submit an application through the Onslow County website. Please note any special requirements listed on the application and ensure that you upload all required documentation.
Step 3
All applications, cover letters, and resumes are reviewed by Human Resources and a departmental subject matter expert (SME) to determine an applicant’s eligibility for open positions. Unsolicited applications and/or resumes will not be kept on file.Those who meet eligibility requirements receive information regarding next steps. Those who do not meet the eligibility requirements are sent acknowledgments.
Step 4
Any necessary pre-employment assessments are administered.
Step 5
Interviews are conducted.
Step 6
Background screenings are conducted on successful applicants. These screenings may include any or all of the following:
- Criminal background check
- Motor vehicle records check
- Employment history verification and professional reference checks
- Education/certification/license verification
- Other qualifications required of the position
Step 7
The successful applicant receives a conditional offer of employment. All selected applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and some applicants may be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical.

Recruitment announcements for each Onslow County job open to the public will list the following:
- Closing date
- Educational requirements
- Experience requirements
- License requirements
- Job duties
- Salary information
