COVID-19 General Information & Facility Updates

Onslow County is continuing to respond to the current and potential impact of COVID-19 in our community.  We are following guidelines and taking steps to prevent the spread of illness at our government facilities and throughout the County.  In an effort to practice social distancing, please refer to the information below regarding reduced services and closings.

The public is asked to access County services by phone or online where applicable, and adhere to social distancing guidelines that are in place.  

If you are concerned or have any additional questions regarding COVID-19 in Onslow County, we have activated our Citizens Phone Bank, (910) 989-5027 for calls.  At this time they are open 8AM-5PM Monday-Friday.  Use the following sites for additional information regarding the virus.

Animal Services
  • New Hours Starting Monday, April 6th

  • Owner-surrender appointments will only be available for emergency circumstances.

Cooperative Extension

Court Systems
  • Open to the public with special guidelines.
  • Citizens can access court calendars, inquire on court dates, request dismissal of DMV related citations such as vehicle registration violations and no operator’s license, pay many traffic citations, and make probation payments online.

Environmental Health
  • Office is open to the public.
  • Applications can be submitted online through environmental_health@onslowcountync.gov and payment can be accepted by telephone.
  • Payment and appointments can be made at (910) 938-5851, ext 0.

GIS
  • Office is open to the public.
  • For map related information (ownership, values, etc) our customers are encouraged to view this online via our map interface.
  • Specialized maps, customers can call (910) 937-1190 or email their request. A PDF version could then be created and emailed to the customer.  If needing a printed map, they would have to print it themselves from the provided PDF.

Library
  • All libraries are back to normal operating hours as of September 8, 2020.
  • Curbside book service still available!
  • We have a host of virtual services available to patrons:  digital books, audio books, videos for children and adults, online classes incl. language learning.  These require a library card (free for Onslow county citizens and employees) which can be obtained calling your library branch below.
  • Safety protocols in place: facial coverings requested; seating and limited computers are available; building capacity is at 50%.

Museum
  • Museum is open to the public as of September 8, 2020.
  • Virtual tours and online resources available to those interested.

  • Safety protocols in place: social distancing guidelines, facial coverings requested, hand sanitizing stations, some interactive exhibits are still closed

Parks & Recreation
  • All beaches and playgrounds are now open to the public.
  • Parks will be closed at 9AM and 3PM daily for thorough cleaning and disinfecting.
  • Parks remain open. We just ask that you maintain physical distancing while enjoying our parks. Be safe!

Planning & Development
  • Office is open to the public.
  • Permits can be submitted online.  Once approved, applicants can provide payment over the phone.
  • Field inspections are being performed as a next day service.
  • Appointments are also available to assist with any documents that require a physical signature.

Register of Deeds
  • Please call (910) 347-3451 for any questions about marriage licenses, birth certificates, notary oaths, recorded deeds, surveys, etc.  
  • To practice social distancing, most services can be handled remotely through register of deed’s website and order vital records online or post mail.

Social Services
  • All services still available, are still being conducted by curbside.

  • Alternative to visiting DSS, economic services can be applied online for food and nutrition benefits as well as Medicaid.
Soil & Water
Tax Office
  • Office is open to the public.
  • Tax Administration is still providing all necessary services online or over the phone.  A drop box is located near the entrance to the Onslow County Government Center for citizens to drop off tax forms, payments (no cash please), and other correspondence or documents, such as property tax relief applications.

Veteran Services
  • Office is open to the public.
  • Veteran Services is still taking phone appointments over the phone.  We are working hard to protect the health of our veterans, and strongly urges all veterans who need services to call (910) 347-3309.

Youth Services
  • Lobby area is now closed to the public.
  • Program services are being conducted virtually and/or by phone.

Albert J Ellis Airport

  • Passengers should contact their respective airline for flight-related questions.

Senior Services
  • Senior Services Center will open September 15, 2020 at limited capacity.
  • Pre-registration will be required for any offered classes and activities.
  • In-home program, home delivered meals, and community alternatives program for disabled adults (CAP/DA) will continue to operate as normal practicing social distancing and other preventative guidelines.
  • Congregation Nutrition and Congregate Transportation remain suspended and will be evaluated as North Carolina' phased reopening continues.

Sheriff’s Office
  • Restricted entry to the main lobby of the Sheriff’s Office to only those with business that requires entry.
  • Suspended inmate visitation until further notice.
  • Suspended non-essential fingerprinting, including suspending fingerprinting for conceal carry applications.
  • Pistol purchase permits will still be processed by applicant contact for payment and identification will be conducted at the service window of the main lobby area with applicants not entering the Sheriff’s office.
