Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Onslow County Animal Services!  We depend on volunteers to enrich the lives of the animals in our care. 

If you have not yet attended a new volunteer information session, please contact ocasvol@onslowcountync.gov for a link to upcoming session dates.

If you have already attended a new volunteer information session, please complete and submit the application for service.


*All potential volunteers 18 and over will be subject to a background check. All prospective volunteers under age 18 will not be subject to a background check, but must submit a letter of recommendation (non-family member) to ocasvol@onslowcountync.gov.


**If you are required to complete mandatory community service hours, DO NOT submit this application. Please contact ocasvol@onslowcountync.gov for further information.

Types of Volunteer Work

 

Some examples of volunteer duties :


  • Cleaning Dog and Cat Enclosures
  • Animal Socialization 
  • Feeding and Watering Animals
  • General shelter upkeep
  • Grooming animals
  • Landscaping/ Grounds maintenance
  • Laundry Assistance
  • Medical Assistance (Experience and/or License Required)
  • Office Support
  • Off-site Adoption Event Assistance (Saturdays)

Volunteer Restrictions


  

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. 


Volunteers must commit to at least 15 hours of service. 


Lifting, bending and standing for long periods of time may be required. Volunteers must be able to perform these duties with or without reasonable accommodations.


While those under 16 years old are unable to volunteer at the shelter, there are outside opportunities for aspiring volunteers to help, such as collecting donated items for the shelter or making toys, treats and accessories for our animals.
