Parenting Classes

Onslow County Health Department offers a wide variety of educational classes related to parenting to meet the needs of the community.

Newborn Parenting Classes


This free Newborn and Parenting class is recommended for pregnant women who are at 26-30 weeks or 6-7 months of pregnancy. Registration is mandatory, but walk-in's are welcome. Participants should arrive 10-15 minutes early on the first night. A series of four classes are held Monday evenings from 5:30-7:30 pm, every other month.To learn more or register you can call 910-989-3901.

Prepared Childbirth/Lamaze


Please note OCHD is no longer offering Lamaze classes. Onslow Memorial Hospital will be offering Lamaze classes for those wishing to take classes.


Breastfeeding


Breastfeeding may be natural, but it's not always easy! Support makes a difference. Each The Milk Circle Breastfeeding Support Group is staffed with trained WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors to assist with any concerns you may have. There is no charge for this class.

We also offer Breastfeeding 101 where we teach the basics of breastfeeding from a NC Lactation Educator. Learn about benefits, myths, getting started, infant cues, what to expect, and more!
