Eating Healthy

Eating a healthy and well-balanced diet is an essential part to maintaining your overall health. To feel satisfied with fewer calories, replace high-calorie foods with lower calorie foods. You can eat larger portions of these foods for fewer calories.

For example, follow the advice from ChoseMyPlate to "make half your plate fruits and vegetables."

Being Physically Active

Engaging in physical activity or exercise regularly can improve your health and reduce your risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Physical activity and exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits. Most importantly, regular activity can improve your quality of life. Adults should strive for a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity, such as brisk walking, cycling or dancing every day, most days of the week to enjoy these benefits. We're Here to Help

If you are struggling with obesity, diabetes or other nutritional concerns, the Health Department provides Nutrition and Counseling services. Registered dieticians, nutrition counselors and health educators are available provide one-on-one counseling or group education.  

The Health Promotions and Education Team also provides information for individuals, educational classes and presentations in the community on topics such as healthy eating, budgeting and menu planning, weight management, physical activity and food safety.
