[ARCHIVED] Onslow County Monitoring Forest Fire

August 10, 2022 - 3:15PM: Onslow County Emergency Services is monitoring a forest fire that began August 9, 2022 in the Holly Shelter Game Lands. As of 2PM Wednesday, August 10 the fire had grown to over 1000 acres but remained in Pender County.
Citizens in the Holly Ridge and Sneads Ferry areas may see smoke and ash as a result of this fire. As the fire continues to burn smoke could cause reduced visibility and motorists are urged to use caution when driving if they encounter such conditions.
Pender County Emergency Management, the NC Forest Service, and Onslow County Emergency Services are coordinating a plan to contain the fire. Currently the fire is not contained but no homes are threatened as the fire is within a forest area.
Onslow County will provide additional updates on this fire as information becomes available.
