[ARCHIVED] Nonprofit Requests for Onslow County Funding

New Blue PNG Logo copy

During the annual budget process the Onslow County Board of Commissioners considers requests for funding from area nonprofit agencies. In order to be considered for funding, the completed application and required documentation must be received by March 1, 2023.

Funding for the grant program comes from two sources, Tourism Funds and the General Fund of the County. Tourism Funding grants are considered for nonprofit agencies that enhance and attract travel and tourism to Onslow County either through day-to-day operations, events, or capital improvements. General Fund funding is considered for nonprofit agencies that provide a service that the County could provide.

All applications for funding and required documentation are due by March 1, 2023 for the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Agencies will be given the opportunity to provide a short presentation to the Onslow County Budget Team on March 23, 2023. The presentation will be recorded for Onslow County Board of Commissioner review.

Last year the Onslow County Board of Commissioners approved more than $800,000 in grants for area nonprofits including organizations like the Brigade Boys and Girls Club and Onslow United Transit System. These grants helped fund projects that enriched and engaged youth in Onslow County or helped provide transportation services to elderly and disabled persons.

The tourism development grants are funded by hotel occupancy tax and more than $1.2 million was approved last budget year across more than two dozen grant applications. That funding was used to generate tourism visits to our community by assisting with events like the Onslow Veterans Pow Wow and the Ocean City Jazz Festival among many others.
