2. How can I pay for my EMS or ambulance bill?

- For any bills for service prior to September 1, 2005, please contact our County Finance Office at 910-455-3404.

- If you have a bill for services that was from September 1, 2005 through June 30, 2014, please contact our Administration Office at 910-347-4270.

- If you have a bill for service that was after July 1, 2014 to present, please contact AMB/MARS Billing 1-800-588-3995. You may also pay online at: AMB /MARS Billing Company

3. How long does it take for an ambulance to reach my residence?

The average response time is approximately 10 minutes.

Situations that may delay response to your location include:
- Several 911 calls within your area
- Poorly labeled addresses
- Traffic and weather conditions

4. What can I do to help the paramedics when they arrive?

To help ensure prompt response, please have the following patient information ready:
- Allergies
- Medications
- Their known significant medical conditions
- Their past medical history
- Their physician's information

Be prepared to clearly explain the current problem and most importantly, remain as calm as possible.

5. What is the difference between a paramedic and an emergency medical technician (EMT)?

An emergency medical technician performs basic emergency care to the sick and injured. They do not perform advanced procedures. Their primary mission is to render basic first aid.

A paramedic performs IV therapy medication, EKGs (electrocardiograms) and other advanced emergency procedures.

6. What should I do in case of an emergency or an accident has occurred?

In case of emergency dial 911. Do not assume someone else has already called during an emergency event.

Be sure to stay calm and stay on the phone with the dispatcher until they hang up first.

It is important that you do not move the patient unless there is a threat to the patient such as fire, explosion, etc.

7. Why at times are ambulances parked in convenience store parking lots or other areas and not at their stations?

In the event that we have a call in a specific area that an ambulance is responding to, we sometimes require an additional ambulance to stand by just in case another call should occur in the same area.

8. Why at times are two ambulances at one medical emergency?

There are two reasons why. First, the primary paramedic unit may require additional help.

Secondly, while a paramedic unit responds to all 911 calls occasionally a basic unit (volunteer) will respond, too. If your 911 emergency does not require a paramedic then a basic unit can transport keeping the paramedic unity ready for the next 911 emergency.
